NEWS AND NOTES

FINAL COUNTDOWN

Two game dates remain in the CAA regular season with four teams having already secured a spot in the first weekend of the CAA Championship and five teams in contention for the final two spots.

Defending CAA champion Hofstra moved into first place with Sunday’s results and has punched its ticket along with Monmouth, Towson, and Northeastern.

William & Mary, Stony Brook, UNCW, Campbell, and Delaware are still mathematically alive for the final two spots.

The CAA Championship bracket will be announced Sunday afternoon with First Round games played between the No. 3/6 and No. 4/5 teams on Thursday, Oct. 26 at the sites of the top two seeds, with the winners advancing to play those top two on Sunday, Oct. 29. The title game will be played the following weekend.

ARE YOU IN?

Northeastern is in the Championship field for the 13th-consecutive season, Hofstra for the seventh in a row, Towson for the second-straight, and Monmouth is 2-for-2 in its time in the CAA.

Hofstra has won the last two CAA titles and five of the last six, making a run from the No. 8 seed to capture last year’s crown on a 109th-minute game-winner.

POWERING UP

CAA teams picked up a pair of wins over Power 5 opponents in the opening week. Delaware blanked Syracuse, 1-0, in Newark with Raychel Speicher scoring the game-winner. Hofstra followed with a 1-0 win at Rutgers thanks to a late goal by Olivia Pearse.

The win over an ACC opponent was the CAA’s first since Hofstra over Boston College in 2020-21, while the victory over the Big Ten was the league’s first since Drexel beat Maryland in 2018.

MS. WORLDWIDE

CAA programs were well-represented at this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

UNCW alum Katrina Guillou was part of the Philippines’ first team to play in the World Cup, fellow Seahawk Sydney Schneider suited up as a goalkeeper for Jamaica, and Hofstra’s Diane Caldwell represented Ireland.

TEAM NOTES

Campbell’s Bayleigh Humbert and Natalie Jamison scored their first career goals in Sunday’s win over Hampton.

Grace Powell scored in her final home game in a Charleston uniform Sunday to move into 10th place in program history in career goals.

Delaware’s Kyla Burns leads the nation with a .922 save percentage.

Seven Drexel players have scored two or more goals this fall.

Anna Hamner’s 10 saves vs. Stony Brook were the most by an Elon goalkeeper since Kate Murphy’s 11 in a 2014 win over Delaware.

Alexis Deveaux has made a nation-leading 144 saves for Hampton this season.

Hofstra has played 11 one-goal games - including nine of its 11 victories - and 12 of 15 have been decided by one goal or less.

Monmouth has allowed a total of two goals in its last 11 matches.

Issy Bryant has recorded a point in six of her last eight games for UNCW.

Northeastern has won three straight games all via shutout for the first time since victories over Towson, James Madison, and No. 12 Hofstra in 2021.

Ashley Bell is the fourth Stony Brook player to earn CAA Rookie of the Week honors in the Seawolves’ two seasons in the league, joining Linn Beck, Gabrielle Côté, and Luciana Setteducate.

Towson’s loss Sunday was its first in a conference regular season game in 388 days.

William & Mary’s +12 goal differential (27-15) is currently on pace to be its best since outscoring its opponents 41-20 in 2015.
