BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week

Kayla Briggs, Providence, Fr., F

Briggs helped lead the charge on a successful week for Providence, recording three points across its two matches. The freshman forward nailed the game-winning goal with a strike in the 81st minute of the Friars’ 1-0 win over Marquette on Thursday. She then tallied an assist on the team’s lone goal in a 1-1 draw at No. 22 Georgetown. Her performances have helped Providence remain without a loss in conference play, as they currently sit in third in the BIG EAST with 13 points in the standings.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

Lucy Cappadona, UConn, Sr., M

Cappadona earns her second Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season after holding down a UConn backline that recorded back-to-back shutouts on the week. The Huskies started the week with a 5-0 win over DePaul on Thursday, followed by a 0-0 draw at Butler on Sunday. Cappadona’s defensive efforts helped in registering a 38-17 shots advantage and 22-4 shots on goal advantage over the two-game stretch. The senior midfielder played in all 90 minutes of both matches to aid in UConn’s push up the BIG EAST standings. 

BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week

Kaitlyn Mahoney, UConn, Sr., GK

Mahoney earns Goalkeeper of the Week honors after not allowing a single goal over two games for UConn. The senior keeper was able to thwart all opposing attacks, tallying four saves across the week. Her stellar performances included a solo clean sheet at Butler in a 0-0 draw on Sunday. Mahoney’s shutout was her eighth of the season, tied for the second-most in the conference.   

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

Anja Jestrovic, Creighton, Fr., M

Jestrovic earns Freshman of the Week honors for the second straight week after a huge game in Creighton’s 2-0 win over Seton Hall on Thursday. The freshman from Serbia added a goal and an assist in the contest, totaling three shots. Jestrovic’s 57th minute strike was all the insurance the Bluejays needed in the victory, as they gained their second win of conference play.
