NEWS AND NOTES
NET NEUTRALITY
Elon and Drexel both produced quality showings in neutral-site events to open their 2022 seasons. The Phoenix outscored Milwaukee and San Diego 5-0 at the John Rennie Nike Classic in Durham, while the Dragons went 1-0-1 in a visit to familiar territory in Harrisonburg.
The Phoenix and Dragons are joined by Monmouth among the ranks of the conference’s unbeaten after the Hawks knocked off RV/#25 St. John’s on Thursday night.
BUZZER-BEATER
Hofstra’s Eliot Goldthorp scored the game-winning goal with one second remaining to give the Pride a 2-1 victory over Fordham on Thursday night.
The goal at 89:59 earned a spot on SportsCenter and had been viewed over 135,000 times across the Hofstra, CAA, and NCAA Instagram accounts as of Monday afternoon.
HOFSTRA RACKS UP PRESEASON HONORS
Hofstra was the unanimous selection of the league’s other head coaches to repeat as CAA champions. Hendrik Hebbeker was selected as CAA Preseason Player of the Year and named a Preseason All-America selection along with teammate Ryan Carmichael.
UNCW, Elon, Northeastern, and Drexel were ranked second through fifth and separated by eight points.
WELCOME!
Stony Brook and Monmouth both made their debuts as CAA members on Thursday. It was announced earlier in August that Campbell - No. 25 in the preseason United Soccer Coaches poll - will join the CAA for the 2023 season.
