GLIAC Women's Championship: No. 1 vs. No. 2 As GVSU, NMU Meet

With both posting shutouts in the semifinals, Grand Valley and Northern Michigan advanced to set up a 1 vs. 2 GLIAC Championship.

The top-seeded GVSU Lakers improved their goal differential in the GLIAC Tournament to a whopping 10-0, following the seven-goal blowout of Purdue Northwest with a 3-0 blanking of Ferris State.

Another clean sheet for Lakers goalkeeper Kendall Robertson came as a result of eight saves in the semifinal, giving her 52 for the season ahead of Sunday's GLIAC Championship. Robertson's perfect performances in goal this season include three saves in Grand Valley's last matchup against the No. 2 seed Northern Michigan Wildcats, but NMU was equally stingy in the Oct. 9 encounter.

The 0-0 tie came during a tough, 1-1-2 stretch for the Lakers. Since then, GVSU has rolled to four consecutive wins and allowed only one goal over that span.

Taylor Reid keyed the offensive eruption against Ferris State, scoring a pair of goals. Reid is on fire down the stretch, scoring five combined goals over the Lakers' last three matches.

Northern Michigan, meanwhile, rides one of the nation's best defenses into the title round. The Wildcats last gave up more than one goal in any match all the way back on Sept. 23 — coincidentally, that came in a 2-1 loss to Grand Valley.

Since then, NMU has an incredible run of nine matches in the last 10 with shutouts. Shenae Kreps has 51 saves, doing her part as the Wildcats defense has limited opponents to just 74 shots on goal all season.

In the semifinals, Brooke Pietila scored early off an assist from Brenna Musser. That was all the cushion Northern Michigan needed to advance.
